Description:

This Lapis Lazuli necklace is centered around a large convex-cut oval stone that immediately reminded me of a planet seen from space. Its sweeping shades of blue look like deep oceans, continents, clouds, and distant coastlines, almost as though I am holding a tiny blue world in my hands. I framed the stone in intricate dark brown micromacramé, using the earthy cord to contrast with the intense blues and give the necklace a grounded, elegant boho luxe character.

Lapis Lazuli is actually a rock composed of several minerals rather than a single mineral species. Its famous deep blue color comes primarily from lazurite, while calcite can create white areas and pyrite often appears as tiny golden metallic flecks. Lapis has been treasured for thousands of years, from ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt to its later use as the source of ultramarine pigment in European art. Traditionally, it has been associated with wisdom, truth, intuition, and self-expression.

At the throat chakra, I placed a natural Crab Agate stone, adding another beautifully patterned form of chalcedony to the composition. Agates develop as silica-rich material gradually fills cavities and fractures within rock, often producing intricate bands, clouds, and contrasting mineral patterns. In crystal traditions, agate is commonly associated with grounding, stability, and balance, making it a fitting companion to the more celestial appearance of the Lapis Lazuli.

I completed the collar-style choker with blue stone beads that seem to emerge from the dark brown weave like small fragments of the world held within the central pendant. Although the Lapis Lazuli gives this necklace an almost cosmic presence, I wanted the overall design to remain connected to the Earth through its natural materials, rich brown tones, and organic knotwork. To me, The Blue World Talisman captures that balance perfectly: ocean and earth, sky and stone, something ancient beneath our feet and something infinite above us.
