Description:

This ocean necklace is a piece I created around a magnificent Australian abalone shell that simply refuses to be subtle. Large, luminous, and constantly changing with the light, the shell flashes with pearlescent shades of violet, blue, green, and silver. I surrounded it with delicate micromacramé leaves and flower petals in dark brown and purple, allowing the intricate knotwork to echo the colors hidden within the shell itself.

Abalone creates its remarkable inner shell from nacre, a layered material composed primarily of calcium carbonate crystals and organic proteins. These microscopic layers interact with light to produce the shifting rainbow iridescence that makes every natural abalone shell unique. I paired it with labradorite at the throat chakra, another material famous for transforming in the light. Its characteristic labradorescence can reveal flashes of blue, violet, green, and gold depending on the viewing angle. In spiritual traditions, I often see abalone associated with emotional balance, protection, and the sea, while labradorite is connected with intuition, transformation, and inner discovery.

I love the contrast within this necklace. The micromacramé is intricate, delicate, and filled with small botanical details, while the oversized shell at its center is bold, radiant, and impossible to ignore. The purple accents give the piece a feminine, almost nocturnal garden feeling while maintaining its unmistakable connection to the ocean. I made the choker adjustable with a tie in the back so I can change the fit depending on how dramatically I want it to sit.

To me, The Siren's Midnight Garden feels like a meeting between the forest and the sea: flowers unfolding beneath moonlight, flashes of color beneath dark water, and something ancient and mysterious calling from below.
